SJPG was initially called Public Administration Journal (PAJ) and was later renamed as Nepalese Journal of Public Policy and Governance (NJPG) in 2008. The reason for changing this name to SJPG is its wider audience and its focus on contemporary policy and governance issues in South Asia and beyond. The journal is sponsored by the Policy and Governance Studies (PGS) in South Asia under the NORHED program and funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).

SJPG is the product of our endeavor to upgrade the journal and to make it more useful to students of public administration, political science, management, economics, sociology, international relations and others. It is hoped that this journal serves as a forum for exploration and dissemination of ideas and issues on various dimensions of public sector governance and policy particularly those studies based on empirical evidence and experience. We encourage articles that are original, analytical and argumentative to bring forth discussions and debates on existing political, administrative and social issues. We also encourage studies that highlight cross-country and regional analysis. We also accept articles about policy and governance from all over the world. It is an open access journal.
